very faithful adaptation of a wondrous book. i wasn't 100% convinced at the beginning, i thought it kind of lacked the magic, but i guess my expectations were just too high and i was wanting it to be like i had imagined. nonetheless, after 15 min or so, i came to my senses and just started enjoying the film. i loved it. i really did. really beautiful story, beautifully performed. hopkins manages to make his mr stevens seem even more cold and annoying than his book counterpart. i still think they overdid mr stevens's dad's make up, it looked a bit too adams family, but that's just nitpicking.
Rating: 8.5/10
I agree with Hopkins' coldness. Outstanding!
ResponderEliminarIt's so rare that film adaptations don't piss me off - especially of books I love.
ResponderEliminarI'm a bit nervous about Never Let Me Go, I feel like the trailer gives away too much. And it all seems a bit 'Oscar-worthy'..but I could be wrong!
i still have to read the book... but yes, i know what you mean, saw the trailer and wasn't 100% sure about it...
ResponderEliminarGlad you liked it! I thought you would...
ResponderEliminarI love the scene where they are in his study and she prises the book out of his hand - the look of longing in his eyes! But only for a moment and 'Mr Stevens' returns. So so sad.
Much love x
